Fan

  • 29 BUICK FAN HUB WITH SEALED BEARINGS: Tim Wilkinson (25) sent this conversion of an original fan hub to a hub using modern sealed bearings. New hub incorporates two modern sealed bearings and is fully concealed by the original black housing. Once fitted the modification is broadly invisible.
  • The original assembly that rotates around the shaft was cut down and a registration turn with a lathe to locate the hub. We removed a bit of material to create a lip which is used to locate the correct position.
  • Starting with 70mm EN1A round bar a new bearing housing was turned to the dimensions in the drawing.
  • The brass gear in the end of the shaft was removed and the hole this sits in was drilled out and tapped to take a countersunk Allen bolt.
  • A "stop collar" was welded to the shaft.
  • A tube was fitted inside the assembly to ensure inner races could not turn around the shaft. The stop collar, this tube, a counter sunk retaining washer and the centre Allen bolt ensure the whole assembly is tight.
