  • A Western Auto AC Spark Plug ad which clearly shows spark plugs for both High and Low Compression 1929 Buick heads.

  • A page out of the Executive Summery Manual shows a lower gear ratio and different speedo gear to be used when 29’s are equipped with the High Compression Head
  • Caude McGee at the wheel of a specially prepared 29-44 roadster (with high compression head special rear end, etc.) giving the GM Marketing staff a flying 98 MPH drive on the test track in July 1928. (Ed. Note: Glad they didn’t have to stop in a hurry !)

  • Engine Number stamped on Head: It is not always very legible but is located on the right side of the head between the second and third spark plug from the front of the engine. Ideally, all the engine numbers on the firewall data plate, engine block and cylinder head match.
  • Speedo Driven Gear Housing: R. Kearns noticed 2 different versions with the non-shouldered one (left) the most common. Shoulder would have given speedo cable more support. Casting number is the same.
